Playlist 7/24/04 2nd Birthday Show

July 19th marks the 2nd birthday of Retro Red-Eye Express, which explains why I started the show with a birthday song.  However, there's no real significance of the Morrissey block, except that I've been listening to my old Morrissey albums and it reminded me of how much I loved them.

New Music Recommendations

This week's "new stuff to check out" list:

Tommy Stinson - "Village Gorilla Head" ( - check the music page for downloads) (Best known as the bassist for The Replacements, and has also worked with Guns 'N' Roses)

The Vibration - "Ear To The Ground" (
Cool sounding girl-punk. Think Sonic Youth, The Cure, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

They Might Be Giants - "The Spine" (

The Orphans - "5:30AM on a Rainy Day" (
Okay, I recommended the EP last week (didn't I?), but I finally scored the full-length! Crystal clear male vocals w/ rockin' guitar, drum and bass. They kind of remind me of Midnight Oil, especially on the song titled "Time's Up."
